 Since January 2009, Madagascar has been experiencing a social, political and economic crisis. The on-going conflict, initiated by the personal and political differences between the two former mayors of the capital Antananarivo, has been paralyzing the country ever since. The country´s politicians, with the help of the international society, are still unable to find a common ground for resolving the conflict.

The following three questions will be addressed:

• Why hasn’t the country moved out of this crisis since January 2009?
• What is the origin of this crisis?
• And what are the consequences of this crisis for the country's development and for the Malagasy people?
